The Teton School District 401 Board of Trustees has scheduled a working session regarding the Teton High School mascot on Tuesday, July 16, at 6 pm at Driggs Elementary.
During its regularly-scheduled meeting on Monday, July 8, the board listened to four hours of public comment and then discussed the issue for nearly another two hours before coming to a consensus to schedule a work-session regarding the mascot decision.
Board members Mary Mello and Ben Kearsley are working together on the format and schedule for that night’s meeting. They have established these goals for the conversation, expected to include small-group work and brainstorming:
- To listen and encourage dialogue with one another, in a less formal setting than a regular board meeting.
- To allow and encourage the public to bring forth ideas to move forward in a positive direction regarding the mascot/symbol
Superintendent Monte Woolstenhulme was tasked with making sure that all board members receive copies of public comment thus far, and that posting an action item on the work-session agenda allows a decision that night.
The board also scheduled a special meeting for Monday, July 15 at 10 am in the District Office to meet with Headwaters Construction regarding the Guaranteed Maximum Price for the renovations to Teton Middle School.
