Sophomore Year

Review 4 year plan- be sure that you are taking classes that will

prepare you for college or help you explore different careers.

Get involved in extracurricular activities (clubs, sports, community).

Take the PLAN Test (the practice ACT Test).

Consider career-related summer employment.

Begin saving for college if you haven’t already done so.

 

Junior Year

Take the PSAT/ NMSQT Test (also called the National Merit Exam).

Begin researching colleges.  Find out about admission requirements,

cost, majors offered, and evaluate what you are looking for in a

college, university or technical school.

Take the ACT or SAT Exam.

Apply to ROTC or Military Academies now.

Athletes must complete the NCAA Clearinghouse application now if

they plan to compete at a Division I or II college.

Request application information and begin visiting colleges.

 

Senior Year

Retake the ACT or SAT if necessary.

Meet with a school counselor to clarify career and educational goals.

Take advantage of job shadow opportunities.

Visit your top choice colleges- be sure to obtain admission

applications, catalogs, housing and financial information.

Begin collecting letters of recommendation from teachers,

counselors, community leaders, etc.

Write application essays and have someone proof-read them.

Have transcripts sent to the colleges to which you are applying.

Apply for scholarships and financial aid.

Contact colleges to ensure that they have received all your

application materials.

Take AP Tests as available.

Notify colleges of your intent to attend and accept or reject

scholarship and financial aid offers.

Line up summer employment and volunteer opportunities in your

chosen area of study/vocation if possible.
