Basic Philosophy:

All students will be active learners.

The classroom must be a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment.

Content should be rigorous and relevant.

I care about every student as an individual learner and person.

Homework Policy:

Vocabulary should be studied on a nightly basis. Word recognition and repetition is vital to vocabulary success. We cover one lesson approximately every two weeks. Students will be tested on vocabulary.

Writing time is given every class hour. During this time I can respond to students throughout the entire writing process. Students will be required to revise, edit, and type final drafts on their own time.

Reading at home is a necessary component for student success in all content areas. Students will complete at least one independent reading project each semester. They will read the book of their choice and complete the corresponding project entirely outside of class. Students will also be assigned nightly reading from the class novel to prepare for class discussions. Students may be quizzed on literal comprehension to check for reading completion.

Late work:

All students receive four No questions asked (NQA) coupons at the start of the semester. I only accept late work that has an NQA coupon attached. I require one NQA coupon per late assignment. Students will receive extra credit at the end of the semester for any unused NQA coupons.
