Basic Philosophy:
As I think about education, much more than academics comes to mind. Education involves learning new things and “reading, writing, & arithmetic” are just a small part of that knowledge gained throughout the schooling experience. I work with high school-aged young people and I see their knowledge expand every day. That knowledge doesn’t only involve parts of speech and punctuation rules from English class, but includes life skills such as dealing with social issues, learning responsibility (sometimes the hard way), understanding and practicing respect for others, and time management skills. I have to agree with B. F. Skinner when he said, “Education is what survives when what has been learnt has been forgotten.”
I received a Bachelor’s Degree from Utah State University with a major in Health Education, a minor in English, and Certification in Secondary Education.
